That's just the positive spin on it. Men are plenty virtuous, probably at similar or greater rates than women, but Briffault's Law is in effect; females are with males for the benefits they provide. Where the female stands to derive no benefit from association with the male, no such association takes place. Take away the benefits of association with males by providing them (by force) to women without any reciprocal obligations to men, and it's no surprise that women would stop associating with men. Why would they, when they can get everything they need with nothing asked of them?
The patriarchy is absolutely artificial, the natural system observed in hunter-gatherer cultures is matriarchy where males are rotating visitors in family units headed by females, such as what you see in whale pods. But that's what makes civilization so different. Civilization is a system which usurped the natural system of matriarchy, replaced it with patriarchy, and conquered the world. Any civilization which doesn't obey the patriarchal model will eventually be replaced by one that does. We see that today with the wave of Muslims replacing Europeans in their own countries. It's because the Muslims come with patriarchal virtues into matriarchal societies that are not able to resist them.
