Space is death. Endless radiation, endless darkness, endless cold. You have to bring your entire habitat with you out there and if one thing goes wrong you're fucked. Spending prolonged periods without Earth strength gravity will cause your body to begin falling apart. Terraforming Mars is a fucking pipe dream. Mars has no magnetic field, good luck giving it one. Interstellar travel is completely impossible and all the places you could go would just kill you one way or another.

Remote asteroid mining is feasible, though. But finding a space rock with a sufficiently high content of some rare resource would destroy Earth's economies.
