Wasn't Crimea supposed to be their red line? They need to do something or else I'll start believing it's not the emperor's wrinkly regalia flapping in the wind.
I don't think they have good options though. Torturing PoWs and gassing civilians is just counterproductive, and they've already said they're not touching nukes. They have no operational freedom for a convenient airstrike and missiles are precious.
