Its a good idea. The problem is teachers, while they may know a subject (and trust me they largely don't. Professors do, teachers just need a certificate that actually has nothing to do with the subject they teach) almost always know fuck all about life. Even worse, they tend to have less life experiences than the normal person. The best teachers I had were alpha dudes who while they taught us subjects, could teach it through the lens of the real world and being a citizen in it. Nowadays there's so much kahn academy bullshit you don't really need someone who has a too intimate knowledge of the subject. And anyway, these guys are likely going to younger schools or phys ed. Thinking back I was taught by so many alpha dudes. In fact most of them mocked me because I wa ashy or quiet but it did make me a better person.

I think what desantis is trying to do is:

Find a way to make kids into better citizens and people
Fill the schools with some normal people to average out the ideological nonsense

This is the right approach. Its not hard to study up on your one subject and in 1 or 2 years know it well enough to teach it. We're talking about high school here ffs. Even high school calc is easy

The point of using soldiers as scabs is to keep the public schools running (for the time being) without paying teachers. Then, you continue to gut public schools while setting up a system where the tax-exempt rich send their kids to private schools which will then be increasingly funded by the tax-payer, and will end up being a far greater financial strain on the states than just having a normal public school system would be.

This, the harsh reality is that anyone with a high school diploma can probably be brought up to speed enough to teach anything in K-12 competently within a few weeks or months. The real problem with teacher recruitment is that education majors are overwhelmingly libshits who are going into the field for the wrong reasons.
