There's a birth a death cycle of fairly extreme intensity and short duration that follows underground scenes around new types of music. If you find one of those and stick with it you'll probably have a good time and meet cool people. If you're going to a club that's had it's 5th birthday... the scene has probably moved on :)

Yeah I guess those are subjective qualities, but I do suggest that you remain open minded to group music experiences because it can be really nice if you find a crowd that you fit in with, and there's lots of different crowds with different home bases.
Unless you hate music all together, I suggest basically just finding live shows of whatever you already like and then branching off from there. Unless you like music with shitty fans in which case I guess you're fucked, rough break Mario.
