Until Ukraine's army fully mobilizes with NATO spec guns. For all the huffing and puffing from Russia, Ukraine will triple the size of their combat units and rearm all units with ammo that is mass produced in the west. Meanwhile, American HEMETTs and Deuces allow existing logistics to be used far more efficiently. Meanwhile, Russia's logistics network is based entirely on railroads supplying frontline warehouses and armories. The only thing stopping Ukraine from blowing them up is availability of HIMARS and M2777 crews. Meanwhile, Russian tank production has effectively stopped as they can no longer obtain the precision, high quality electronics required for modern rangefinding, targeting and missile control. Russian aerospace production has effectively stopped totally. Radios are in short supply and are reduced to civilian baofengs, which are useless as Russian GIs don't know how to set up their trunks (hierarchial communications network) correctly. Ukraine is already taking foundational steps towards this by destroying Russian aircraft and Russian ships that could thwart their counterattack.

The more basic question here is manpower, Ukraine is winning because they aren't throwing men into suicidal meat grinders. Russia is losing because they are doing that. Such a situation cannot persist long term as Ukraine gets better weapons while Russia chews through Soviet era stocks. Hence the threats of "full mobilization" and nukes by Russia, it's the only threat they have left.

Ukraine has shown repeatedly that Russia doesn't have any serious defenses within its borders. When they break through Russia's defenses, they will take the fight all the way to Moscow, and Russians won't take arms up against them because the every Russian is too afraid to fight for what he believes in.

Russia's threats have no weight considering that Ukraine's pitiful air force was able to effectively stop them. Against last-gen NATO planes Russia stands no chance, and Russia especially has no chance against USAF planes. There is simply no contest anymore, so threats to us are not respectable. However, the threat to Ukraine is great but even then if Putin starts strategic bombing, gas bombing, or nuclear bombing the US will get involved directly and stop the insanity. When Russia can only bully countries that aren't inside NATO, it creates reasons to expand NATO even if it means US sorties on Russian targets as we did in Korea and Vietnam. And successfully so, hence the Armistice and Paris Peace Accords.
