Communism is only achievable post scarcity, the Russians/maoists were too early to the game. Hyper capitalism is the fastest way to produce the technology, manpower, and infrastructure required to achieved a society capable of full automation. They don't even have to depopulate by force because the masses will(and already are) lose the ability to connect, will to live, and desire to reproduce. Look up the behavioral sink. The elite will be left with a sustainable population that can easily be catered to automatically without eating up too many resources.
