Fuck if I know, but here are some things that might help:
The majority of people, in fact almost all, don't give a shit about you. This includes people you probably consider both 'allies' and 'enemies.'
Very few people have opinions they would act on outside of convenience. Your 'allies' wouldn't take a bullet for you and your 'enemies' don't even know you exist.
Your appearance is whatever, taking care of yourself so that your body can be a temple for your mind is good. Doing it for some sort of social score is also acceptable but it's just a tool, not an end.
To gain a sense of 'self' I recommend finding some non-selfish principal that you believe is worth dying for. You have to become more than just an animal controlled by the chemicals in your brain, but rather controlled by the choices you make.
And lastly, there's absolutely no point getting mad at criticism. That doesn't mean you have to accept all criticism as valid, but opinions are like assholes and everyone's got one.
