The journeyman/masters work maybe half a year for a union, make their money for the year, and take 6-8months off before they jump on the books again. They’re bragging about how they didn’t go to college for 8 years, and how people (like you) called them losers, and now they’re making more than you, and both your parents combined.

I’m a loser who went into debt for an engineering degree. All my high school buddies who went into skilled trades made fun of me and said I would drop out and end up working for Starbucks or some shit. I didn’t listen to them and I graduated with a civil engineering degree. I started out at 60k$/year and I had to approve timesheets for tradesmen younger than me making 160k$/yr. Ten years into my career though and I’m making 220,000$ with a 10$ bonus every year. I also have 4 rental properties earning me another 120,000$ each year. I work 40 hours a week and I spend most of my time watching YouTube videos, I do maybe 8 hours of actual productive work each week. You don’t get this kind of job by going into skilled trades. Skilled trades will give you a good paycheque until your knees and back are fucked, then you might as well kill yourself cause nobody’s gonna hire you.

Going to school for saturation diving, the company I signed a contract is paying for all my training (I was already a dive master) once I finish this schooling in which I have a 2.5k allowance I will start doing 4-8 month cycles where I will earn 300k in my first year. Honestly it’s not that hard of work if your competent at diving and welding. There is so many niche trades where you can do something your passionate about and be happy. Yeah linesman aren’t paid as much as what I’ll be doing but it’s still big bucks and retiring early (probably because it is a young man’s job so they have danger pay and overtime for being called in for outages).
Me personally I like work that challenges me as I feel more fulfilled. I almost took a job with Garuda security that paid well plus company car but standing around in rich corporate buildings sounded trash. You need a rural life to raise kids
