I think the vast majority of Americans understand that it wasn't a war worth fighting and that the stated goals were simply bullshit to begin with. Even though they don't understand the intricacies, and most probably don't understand the Taliban, the terrain and the type of warfare, they at least knew it was a stupid war. What they don't understand is that pulling out was always going to be a disaster where the Afghan government fell apart, and they'd like to find someone to blame for it since that's easy. Some blame Trump for initiating it, others blame Biden for failing to predict how quickly the fall would be and getting caught in another saigon scenario.
