The trenches were three feet deep at most. One night we got bombarded exceptionally hard. It was just he and I. We held each other, but not in some sentimental hugging ceremony, the space was just that tight.
Popeye called me cunt incessantly. He asked if me, a cunt, wanted some of the wine in his bag. I just assumed we were both going to die that night, so chug-a-lug it was. We were cut off and alone. I may as well die with a buzz.
