I think there's a little more to it than that. ISIS chose that exact time frame to attack both of us. They were making a point: The Taliban are willing to do business with the West and this changing of the guard was convenient for both parties rather than some military victory. Afghanistan has been forced to modernize in a horrifyingly short amount of time. A nation of goat farmers that barely had radios changed so radically the Taliban were using social media to track down undesirables.
I would like to say that America should have never invaded Afghanistan and it was a stupid idea. But now look how much more advanced and proud they are. We did so much damage to them but in the end it made them strong enough to defend themselves from religious radicals. Mixed feelings.

But whats the situation like on the ground? Media coverage all went offline there last fall. I expect a documentary or two now as its been one year but still, there was talk of winter being brutal or something due to sanctions and a famine. Was also a lot of shilling about Panjshir but thats gone nowhere nor has the famine trouble.
We need bald and bankrupt or somebody to go there and show us the sitch.

ISIS-K have failed to achieve anything on the level of the airport bombing since and it's been a year. They govern no territory and are limited to very inconsequential punitive raids in remote areas much like og ISIS in Syria. They're a non issue. Though the Taliban doesn't quite have the airpower to wipe them out quickly so it'll be a couple years grind to totally stop them.
