I’ve thought that as well but there’s an equally interesting very old mental illness that’s been all but scrubbed called “gender mourning” that fits just as well. Basically it’s an offshoot of post Partum depression/psychosis where the mother believes she’s depressed because her baby was born the wrong gender (it overwhelmingly occurs in the mothers of male infants) and the only way for her to feel better is to dress her baby up as the opposite gender (the one she wanted) and play make believe essentially.

But then you’re right the attention sm aspect screams MBP too so it’s really a hybrid of both.

I unironically have come to believe that a huge number of people, as in a maybe unprecedented percentage of the population, have made pacts with demons.
