The course itself got a limited exemption. They can only water tee boxes and greens, and do so with 30% of their normal water usage. I've heard mixed reports that this course, or French courses in general, use fresh water which is actually pretty retarded and I can see that causing some asspain with residents in the area.

We get droughts every few years now.
It mostly effects shipping: low water levels in rivers so ships can't carry as much.
Ironically this means the shipping industry is making bank because they get to do 4 times as many trips.
And it affects farmers of course (but fuck them, they caused this themselves)
But it also makes wildfires more likely and in extreme cases like southern France at the moment it even means people can't water their garden or wash their car.

The course is in a drought prone area. Out here in southern California which is essentially just a desert, every course uses non-potable water/grey water for irrigation and course designs are shifting more towards desert golf. My local course is completely different from how it was when I was a kid. Some fairways are completely gone and replaced with gravel, bunkers are now grass bunkers, etc. Also costs $20 to play for any non-whites who think golf is a rich man's game
