Poles aren't Ruthenians, they were never part of the Kyvian Rus tribes. If anything, it's Belarusians that is closer to Ukraine.

Ruthenia is a latinized versian of Rus. Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus are all inheritors of the kingdom. Poles were their own thing because they adopted Catholicism.
