Blocking roads & surrounding the vehicles as angry, potentially violent crowds is a recipe for disaster. Thank god I'm leaving the country tomorrow.

The government should cut them a check for all repair cost and also a thank you note for their public service.

It depends on if the protestors were peaceful or not. If they are surrounding and beating on someones car it should be self defense.

But if he stopped, smiled, waved, and politely asks for passage, and it's denied by a hostile appearing crowd? at that point they are restricting his movement and there is a case that he's been kidnapped. I would be scared shitless if my car was surrounded. And when you are scared shitless, who knows what you'll do to escape that. Most self defense law states that you are lawfully authorized to use lethal force in fear for your or another's life or limb, I don't see how some scenarios are any different when it comes to cars surrounded, being jumped on and hit, and whatnot.
