After the war of 1812, it basically reaffirmed that the north would be under British control. After gaining more autonomy in 1867 Canadians were under British protection up until their empire collapsed in the 1950s. Since then we looked at the UK as well as Canada as an ally.
Today the two countries are intertwined economically and generally agree when it comes to domestic and foreign relations. Theres no reason to wage war since our relationship is mutually beneficial.
