You're right to do so. But you don't need some kind of complex historical theory. The simple fact is, Northern Europe is cold and dark for half the year, and there are only certain types of people that can survive in that environment, or could, before modern conveniences made everywhere like everywhere else. Africans can have low time preference because there are gazelles available for hunting all year round. Northern Europeans had to anticipate the coming winter.

Oh I'm not looking for something extremely convoluted or the like, I meant just the origins, meanings, and historical truths of it if that makes sense.
