He signed the CHIPS act, which will actually bring back high level manufacturing of semiconductors to the US. Trump ended his term with a net off-shoring of jobs and failed to bring back manufacturing.
Brandon is dabbing on Trump
Much like with every other piece of legislation over the last 20 years, I am skeptical.
Companies already announce 44 billion investment in response. Intel is building a fab right now.
50 billion is not enough. It wil take 50 trillion and 30 years.
The US already has the expertise to create top tier fabs.
>Companies already announce 44 billion investment in response. Intel is building a fab right now
I’ve heard shit like this before. We’ll see how it turns out. Trusting predictions from politicians is dumber than trusting a 1800 phone psychic.
I know clown world moves so fast nobody remembers, but we don’t even have enough power in our grids for chip factories
Several companies are building fabs right now in different places in the US.
They can't risk depending on Taiwan as the main exporter because it's going to erupt into a geopolitical nightmare sooner or later.
Cheerleader: give it time and see how it pans out. The US government is the most incompetent body in human history. Maybe they’ll get this one right, but probably not.
Intel's fabs are vertically integrated and worth shit for non-Intel production. Their Nodes are ancient, their tooling for their most bleeding edge node (10 fucking nm, though it is very dense but not as dense as it was planned) is flawed and doesn't scale well, their CPUs fail to catch up with AMDs designs (who is fabless and uses TSMC) without Intel resorting to tricks in the microarch-design, ridiculous power draw and heat generation that won't let Germans freeze this winter.
The US government isn't building fabs.
Micron and Samsung are building fabs in the US.
TSMC is expected to open something in the US as well. If China invades Taiwan, it's literally over for the world. You can't run something as complicated as a chip manufacturing plant in a warzone.
And? They pass bills, predict x and always under deliver. You are excited about 44 billion in investment where no checks have actually been written, only announced. We’ll see in five years.
There are plants under construction right now as we speak. Earliest one to open in 2024.
>You can't run something as complicated as a chip manufacturing plant in a warzone.
True, I fully agree
>TSMC is expected to open something in the US as well.
Due to open past 2025 and will only produce 5nm which sounds good at first, but by then TSMCs 5nm will be very old news, it's as if you tried building competetive chips on 16nm today. It's not going to happen.
Also, what about processes up to 5nm? TSMC still builds chips on a lot of older nodes because they can be pretty good to reproduce older chips 1:1 or if you do not need to be on the bleeding edge. I guess Samsung and Micron (who is/was also Intel's NAND/Storage fab) can work those, but TSMC in the US is AFAIK only going to build 5nm.
>Earliest one to open in 2024.
Let me know when they are all open, I will review the predictions vs the reality and we will see. The odds are not in favor of it working.
>The odds are not in favor of it working.
How? Do you think they're just clueless and pumping billions into a plant for nothing? Lol.
The us government is the least efficient government in world history, so it is a distinct possibility.
The US government isn't building the plants, retard. The Samsung plant is being built by different contractors and will be done by 2024. It was already being built before Biden passed the bill.
>The US government isn't building the plants, retard.
And? That doesn’t prevent all of the usual graft, kickbacks, disappearing money, waste, under performance of investment and all of the usual fun that comes with legislation.
>The Samsung plant is being built by different contractors and will be done by 2024. It was already being built before Biden passed the bill.
So it has nothing to do with Biden then? So why are you giving him credit for it.
Kek, because he gets paid to. Maybe he does it for free
