video games aren't bad for the reasons you gave-- i feel-- because there's not a direct parallel to reality. There are no constraints or true consequences in video games for doing bad, being bad, or cheating. In real life those things have genuine consequences that ppl are, for sure, acutely aware of, which causes a genuine influence/deterrence on their behavior. The real enemy is social media sites-- but i'll stay on topic.
Video games are bad because they are a colossal time sink, that can have directly addictive consequences for someone who is unable to practice temperance with them: so young people. Young guys literally burn through their entire teens and early twenties sitting on the couch blowing hours on a single game that, once completed, leaves them with the same scenario as before they picked the game up: nothing changed, nothing improved. 1000 hours pumped into call of duty only makes you better at the next call of duty. If you put 1000 hours into any skill that is useful or practical, or creative you can actually have something to show for it at the end of 1000 hours. In call of duty you're just like every other couch surfer who put in 1000 hours: nothing to really show for it (esp if you're not streaming).

video games are basically the porn of free time. They are a very high reward experience, for very little effort in comparison to the "reward rush." Your brain gets rewarded so heavily by video games that they can rewire your brain to want to only play video-games. You get not a literal itch, but an urge to just pick up the controller and "play a little" which turns into hours and hours and hours if you don't know how to control yourself better and set boundaries aka 90% of the ppl in the West.

i have easily murdered 10s maybe 100s of thousands in video games. But in real life that has not amounted to a single person because what you can do in a video game cannot be compared to reality in a literal way. They are simply just not 1:1 to each other. I could punt a dog off a cliff in a video game and laugh because not only has a life NOT ended by it, but there was no effort applied aside from pressing a button. IRL i'd have to climb a mountain, find a cliff, find a dog, bring the dog, kick the dog, and then not think about the reality that a life just ended from my actions.
People do fucked up things in video games because there's no consequences, and you can do them 1000000 times and it doesn't automatically mean a bad mental habit is formed. I don't hop in my car and drive on the side walk despite doing it in every GTA game, nor do i stab my pets with a knife despite stabbing basically everything possible in every video game that features stabbing. Honestly, i think you're reaching for what you think is a sage-like conclusion before you actually think it through.

I see you agree with me about dopamine's influence on people's behaviors, but the reality is, if there are no consequences for bad behavior in real life, most people will behave badly, because they simply can and get away with it scott free.
