Speaking as a former medium to heavy drinker who quit, why is alcohol legal when it’s worse than many illegal drugs?
Why is Alcohol legal
it's the oldest manufacture drug and has a cemented history in literally every group of humans who settled down in any capacity. its ubiquity and the fact that it is less intense and damaging short term than other drugs makes it a hard thing to stomp out of society.
Historical familiarity basically, if ethanol were introduced as an RC today it'd be treated hesitatly
first thing you have to understand is that the laws do not reflect what's good and what's bad.
second thing is that people who make laws don't necessarily follow your interests. in short, they don't give a fuck at best.
Which illegal drug would you recommend to help me kick booze?
acid
mushrooms
life
why else? it keeps people dumb, slow, fat, apathetic, it causes so many illnesses that benefit big pharma, prisons, courts etc. There is more money to be made selling it to the masses rather than banning itout right. Been drinking for 15 years or so, looking at old pictures of me when i was skinny and realizing the youth it stole from me, i blame no one but myself for drinking this poison for so long, sucks that most people can't live without it, its so normalized and widely accepted as a "social" lubricant, bullshit. lifting, running, taking walks and cooking food helps me curb those cravings. Take it one day at a time op, love you user.
Depends on why you're drinking
>Been drinking for 15 years or so, looking at old pictures of me when i was skinny and realizing the youth it stole from me, i blame no one but myself for drinking this poison for so long
Best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, second best time is today queer
Jews
maybe mushrooms and 'life' but i've known alcoholics who used these drugs and went from a raging alcoholic to a raging hedonistic drug addict with shizophrenia/delusions. Only take mushrooms or acid if you are dead set on relinquishing all forms of drug abuse and with a mindset of 'resetting'
It’s a legal slow suicide. I’m actually wasted right now.
Less damaging? It literally destroys your cells.
I agree, legalize meth
Fbpb
Weed got me off booze, unfortunately it takes you out of the job market for the most part.
This. But yeah, OP, it's one of the worst when abused or misused. It shouldn't be legal. Weed is mostly for pussies and degenerates but I'd swap it with alcohol in terms of legality.
this
Historical precedent and Jesus drank it.
It's been a part of pretty much all cultures since the dawn of humanity
And beer is delicious
I mean, but do you have to be high 24/7? I smoke at night.
Good job quitting.
Alcoholic or becoming one?
An addict wanting and trying to quit is a case of the rational mind deciding to stop, while the autonomous processes of the mind and body create cravings. Its why people have such a hard time losing weight. Rational mind chooses to lose weight and eat less, autonomous mind sends craving signals. You can know something is bad and decide to quit, but you still go up against the basic urges/cravings. The rational mind is losing to basic, powerful impulses. Which is why i always suggest people try Naltrexone for alcoholism. Gets rid of the craving aspect so all thats left is sorting the daily life out.
Naltrexone is a helpful medication to reduce the cravings. Molecularly classified as an opiate-antagonist (opposite effect of opiate-agonists like morphine and heroin. Very similar structure to actual opiates) Comes in a once-monthly injection or daily pills. Injection is expensive and pills are inexpensive. Local clinics, aka "community clinics" receive federal and state cost-reduction grants to serve people without insurance. I took the shot for 8 months, free. Saved my life. In the U.S. you can call 311 in most cities, a direct line to United Way. They will help you locate such a clinic. Also some anti-depressants and other psychotropic medications can help. Addicts tend to have mood or other psychiatric issues that are called "co-morbid factors"
Drugs.com has 500+ positive reviews about Naltrexone from actual alcoholics.
"Medical detox" refers to a doctor prescribing librium or valium for a few days to get you safely off alcohol. It works and its painless. Trying to "taper down" WITH alcohol is slow and extremely painful. Most doctors will readily offer you a medical detox prescription. They see the horrors of alcoholism starting with their medical training in hospitals.
Because you’re a stoner fag. Alcoholics deserve to die of liver failure and I deserve a nice cold beer with dinner, there is literally no problem here
less damaging short term you dolt. you don't have the overt markings and medical effects associated with something like heroin or meth. it's easy to ignore or even outright miss the negative effects for the first few weeks or even months of consistent usage. other drugs catch up to you a lot quicker. cell death isn't exactly a noticeable short term effect.
