I voted for trump specifically because he seemed like the candidate that would do the most damage to the system. And he has. Not in the way I expected, exactly, but still all the same. I expected him to dismantle institutions and disrupt the normal political process directly, but instead what's happened is, he has so badly rattled the establishment that they've slid hard into authoritarianism in order to prevent another Trump from happening. They don't even realize it, either, they still think they're "saving the country" or whatever but they've damned the soul of the United States and it's just an inevitable slide into hell now.
