People do, they're called proxy cards. You can take a garbage card and write on it with permanent marker that it's a Black Lotus. Perfectly alright for kitchen table play.
You're not allowed to use fake cards in official tournaments however. So you have to pay top dollar by supporting your local game store by paying several hundreds or thousands of dollars to complete your deck :^)
