I use mods playing Battlefield 1 and even made some of my own. DICE made game with great atmosphere and good amount of content, but there is these shitty thing sprinkeled all over to butcher WW1.
For example Indian Sikh has no mustache or beard, Germans have African man as a Scout and Cavarly. British have African man just because they had colonies in Africa. Scout classes in USA, UK and German factions are all blacks for some reason. Austrians have copy pasted German uniforms and gear. Russians have Woman from Battalion of Death on every single map. Lack of mustaches overall in the game. I fixed that anyways, and small modding community has made some nice modes that really makes the game fully playable with actual immersion. Its truly a gem, but you gotta do your own to fix stuff in Frosty Editor before playing the game.

Really it's all about intention, if they wanted to add a black character because such and such unit or whatever battle was known to have a few blacks and it was genuinely in the interest of accuracy and telling that story it'd be fine, it's just when it's done with this clear nasty aggression that people get annoyed
