This man was entirely correct.
Poland's greatest enemy, a nation entirely devoted to being vindictive, malicious, hostile and opportunistic towards us is Germany, more specifically its northern part, with multiple political figures from Germany stating as far back as XIX century that Poland and/or its parts deserves extermination and annihilation. Throughout history, nothing has ever come from Germany that in any way enabled our nations to build a parthership of any sorts, what we instead received was exploitation, occupation, destruction, ausrottung of our educated populace and mass extermination. This happened during WW2, obviously, but during WW1 Germans were not any kinder in terms of their occupation policy, even when they pretended to be liberators.
Nowadays, these events are in Germany a source of vengeful pride and a massive cope - they may have lost the wars, but at least they killed some Polack civilians. That's a German's main sourcee of pride and national identity.
The deliberate and total nature of that hostility really trumps the historical animosities we had with Russia. Russia, whilst hostile, is not even close in its desire for total extermination of neigbouring nations to Germany. A war with Russia is a brutal mess of suffering and pain, a war with Germany is that squared and you have to deal with an enemy solely dedicated to absolute, total, brutal and methodical extermination of your entire country. Whilst one must not mistake that fact for Russia being peaceful, it is an important factor in geopolitics.
Even nowadays, the chance of there existing a Russian whose entire life would be dedicated to seething about Poland's existence 24/7 is minuscule, whilst most Germans right-wingers starting from AfD and ending on NPD dream about attacking us non-stop.
