If they don't print, the eurodollar (i.e. all dollars abroad) will flood back into the US as the last stable currency and keep inflation going that way, except everyone else will be too poor to trade with your import-based economy. Consider that the amount of debts and assets held in dollars outside of the US is so vast that they stopped trying to guess it. Printing will effectively keep the giant boulder of dollars outside of the us from rolling back home to crush your own economy.
