So i found and bought this "coin" (the pic is from the Internet but its literally the one i bought) in an antiquities market in belgium a week ago or so. While researching about it, aside from finding 0 info on it (aside from the direct translation) i realized that nazi coins etc are not only relatively Hard to find, but also actively being destroyed
Opinions on giving the damnatio memoriae to regimes?
Also i suspect this "coin" was a token given for supporting economically the anexation of Austria, any info is welcome
OK, nice coin. The name for this type of coin is Kampfspende or Spendenmark. The nazis made many of these coins, they had no value and only served as a symbol for a donation made to the party. it only served to finance the nsdap. It only fulfils certain psychological aspects, 1) people are more willing to give the money if they get something in return. 2.) it fulfils a propaganda function of togetherness. i have heard from old vetereans that the nazis toyed with the idea of introducing local currencies to strengthen the economy in a smaller area. That is, you could only spend the money in one federal state, a system that was even introduced by germany 70 years later. picrel is another coin
Thx! Then this one was then a standard token for a donation, pre ww2. The mention of Austria is purely propagandistic? Like, you donated to them and they had several tokens showing propagandistic mottos
