And it works because the bonds of the family and frens is strong enough to operate on pure trust. You help out your neighbor. you give him some food. you give a hand if he needs to build a house or something. And they will do the same. Its not that its 'to each according to its ability, to each according to its needs' that won't work. But these small communities use a special invisible form of money/currency. They are meritocratic. You gotta help someone first to get help. That trust that if you help someone they will also help you. is the money. Its invisible. implicit. and only exists as a shared memory between people. you remember that someone helped you. that is an invisible debt obligation. That you because you are a good fren/family member you will fulfill.
