Microsoft was allowed to engage in illegal, anti-competitive business tactics and create the original Big Tech for one reason - they were in bed with the NSA and FBI from the beginning. The Feds were totally happy with Netscape, Plan 9, etc. dying.
Here was the problem - Microsoft fucked up big time, Apache/Linux ate their lunch with servers, Windows Phone died, Android took over tablets/cheap laptops, etc.
They anointed Google the new Microsoft when they were allowed to buy DoubleClick - Google gained a monopoly on online ad revenue. That was the nail that killed alternative search engines, independent blogs, everything really.
TL;DR Big Tech is in bed with the U.S. government and it is a state granted monopoly.
And Microsoft were so retarded that they managed to fuck theirs up and became the sick man of Big Tech.

Any time someone creates a competitive product they take money from (((venture capitalists))) then if the idea is proven successful an established big tech corp buys them up at a ridiculous valuation that the venture capitalists will force the founder to accept because they need their investment returns and the founder traded control for money when he accepted the initial offer.
