About 12 years ago I get told by a hookup that they have genital herpes and I should get tested. I do a blood test and it comes back positive the doctor writes me a script should I have an outbreak and I never take it. I have been tested for genital herpes in the years since and everytime it comes back negative. Never had an outbreak or anything. Been married 10 years never worn a condom and my wife has never gotten herpes either. So what the fuck? How legit are most of these tests I genuinely have no idea what to believe.

I never took valtrex and I never had an outbreak. I only had the one positive test initially but all the others say negative so I genuinely don’t know if I have it or not but I lean towards not and that makes me doubt how accurate most medical tests are.

Infections like Herpes are detected differently (e.g. PCR, Elisa, etc.) to things like measuring blood content (how much VitaminD, etc.)

The scam part is complicated, part of it driven by people who want a name for every little pain they have, this leads to things like fibromyalgia being a thing. But it also leads to overdiagnosis, too many visits. A person goes to a doctor 3 times for a pulled pectoralis major and they are going to get 3 different diagnosis, and if theyre over 50 theres a chance they might just say the right words to the right doc and end up with a cath, and hey maybe that results in a stent, and now theres at least 6 months of plavix and a cardiology visit every 6 monts for life... theres too many meds, too many procedures, too many visits, to many fucking people that want a pill or a shot to make their fucking cold or chronic back pain go away instantly and forever. Well were not fucking there and going to the doctor more often than you need is going to do you more fucking harm than good. You better fucking think twice if you want medical treatment before you tell a doctor about because they'll try to fucking fix it whether it needs fixing or not, and that could be a problem for you. The body is very good at hiding things like infections and parasites. Or you could say that things like infections and parasites ate very good at hiding inside the body. They do this by laying dormant, but if given the opportunity, they will replicate and cause symptoms. It's possible to eradicate some of these things while they are dormant, but that will generally require extended periods of fasting. For a healthy, adult male it is likely that you will only test positive for these things while you are symptomatic, or that you only have brief windows of opportunity to come through on these tests and it really depends on the test and the skill level of the technicians involved.

meh, perhaps, or perhaps a serum test isnt going to be positive during a latent phase infection. either way a pcr test from a swabbed lesion is the gold standard. if you haven't had a gold standard test well then you got subpar treatment. Or you went to the wrong fucking kinda doctor for that kinda test, but i woundt expect the average person to know where to get to get that specific test, fuck i wouldnt, jusst know you're prolly not getting it in the ER, herpes is a sexual emergency, not a medical one.

That's because tests do not test for the "virus" but rely on surrogate markers such as antibodies. the problem with that is the antibodies are not disease specific (they can mean a whole lot of things) and thus prone to false positives.
