I don't really care for Alan Watts, but the act of dispelling your inner thoughts is a common tenant of mysticism.
Basically the idea is that to reach spiritual development, true epiphany, bliss, closeness with God, you need to clear your mind. That means not thinking.
Through this process your mind becomes much more clear and you are now able to see the big stuff.
Think of your brain like a pond. When you're thinking too much, you can't see what's at the bottom. All you see is the gnats and mosquitoes floating above the surface, maybe a couple guppies swimming near the top. But when you stop thinking, you can see all the way to the bottom. That's where the big fish are.
I fucking hate alan watts. Idk why, but i just can’t stand to listen to him nor do i find anything he says having any real value worth listening to. Is this common?
You hate him because you don’t understand what he is saying. Stop trying to mentally disprove him every five seconds and just shut the fuck up and listen. He was a zen Buddhist master and you are not. That kind of says something.

Obvious New Age jew - Oy vey, goy, you are thinking and worrying too much.
The less I think the more I get fucked over
Alan Watt > Alan Watts
Emotions are irrational and often destructive. All you really need is base negative emotions like anger and irritation, and satisfaction with some stoicism. Thinking should be let loose however.
thinking is a sign that you're a white supremacist.
Buddhism ultimately results in nihilism and Alan Watts drank himself to death because he knew his time was almost up anyway. The man is a decent speaker and has plenty to offer those who are uninitiated into the basic tenants of mysticism, but doesn't have alot to offer beyond that. I recommend Terrence McKenna over him, personally.
People need to understand that when Alan Watts recommends you 'think less', he is talking about not playing a limiting factor in your own life and working to diminish the ego.
It literally says "Don't think too much", not "Just don't think", you actual retard
this. fuck new age gurus
Probably. If you're not already into meditation and zen it will probably miss.
Probably because his philosophy threatens the ego of the modern Western man, On a deeper level, you know what he says his right.
You should try actually listening to him - His lecture series "Out of Your Mind" is available on Audible and it's very good.
>just don’t think, bro
time for action, soon.
Yeah my ex gf used to put on his rants while we were falling asleep in bed. I was never really impressed, never picked up anything useful from him. Jordan Peterson managed to make me think about things differently with his rants but Watts never did.
Overthinking can cause inaction
