probably. but they were worse. natives thought corn only grew when they flayed virgins and danced in their skins. many tribes would kill the women and children of their enemies during war without any real relent or law. honestly if there is one word i can think of to summarize native culture, it would be "cruel", from the way inuits would sacrifice slaves and bury them at the bottoms of foundations every time they made a house to the way piute would kill the livestock of white settlers first, laughing as they shot at us from the rocks and watched us slowly starve to death. they thought killing animals was funny too, lots of native cultures treat dogs like absolute shit since they were work mules for a long time. theyre not a wholly evil or stupid people, they can be cunning and creative, brilliant even, but i would not describe them "compassionate"
