You're making a false presupposition here - they don't become "irreligious degenerates in the west", they already are like that. Islam is all about play-pretend, gatekeeping, appearences and getting away with shit while making those around you admire your "exemplary behavior" while you're looking for scapegoats/fall guys. The only thing "keeping them in check" at home is this institutionalized framework of bullshit upheld by the state. It doesn't exist in the west so they can run free, they are unchained - plus they get to dunk on the unbelievers. The only relatively "normal" muslims that I've met are those that became liberal either due to socialism or due to being secular, where Islam is more of a background noise subsumed in their culture - it's more about cuisine, music, dress code, mannerisms, than about dogmatic paradigms that translate directly into the sphere of law and social conduct (that everyone is trying to cheat their way out of anyway). But radical adherents to dogma will never assimilate, they are just a benign tumor at best, waiting to go malignant. Whenever we talk about "toletance", "mutual respect" or "co-existance" all they hear is a dumb goat bleating, waiting to be raped and mercy-killed.
