Two thoughts:

1. He was nervous and it was an involuntary thing. Some people smile when nervous and maybe that overrode his sadness

2. Being bereeved is complicated. I know a lot of people will reminisce about good times and smile about that after somebody has died. There were quite a few bittersweet jokes that prompted some smiles at my cousins funeral. I guess if somebody took an out of context clip of one of us smiling they might have concluded that my cousin didn't die

Uvalde was a hoax too. They performed it better since they learned from their mistakes from sandy hook. Parkland was real I believe.

If that was so and he was just cracking a smile to stay positive then he wouldn’t be clearly getting into character after laughing. And the news would air the laugh part. Every video of Robbie Parker on the news channels started the interview footage after he laughed and got into character.
