No, dropped balls are not a disadvantageous trait for signaling viability. It was simply much easier to drop balls than to redo millennia of amino acid sequence changes JUST to keep the balls inside.

You don't want your testicals inside your body. I was born with only one testical that dropped normally and the other is atrophied because it was stuck inside for too long and overheated. It's less than half the size of the healthy one and it caused me some anxiety during my youth.
