At its largest extent, the Rhodesian military was some 20,000 men. That is including blacks and conscripts.
All White males had to serve as conscripts in the army. Blacks were allowed to volunteer and despite all the cope, the government well understood that they were unreliable and the black contingent was filled with defectors, informants, and arms smugglers to the terrorists. Despite conscription, the RSF was chronically short on manpower. Conscription removes valuable young men from your economy and society. Conscripting young men away from their wives, families, and jobs also means fewer White children being born, and sons growing up for months or years at a time without their fathers. Men coming back with PTSD further exacerbates the White birthrate and child rearing disaster. This is before we even factor in emigration and ethnic cleansing, which devastated the White population and doomed Rhodesia to military defeat.
Add to this the fact that international (((sanctions))) made acquiring new military equipment or even replacement parts for old equipment a herculean task. They had almost no modern jets and relied almost entirely on planes from the 1940s and 50s.

Despite their military ineptitude, they fought smarter than the Rhodesians did. They didn't waste time trying to convert the Whites to communism or kill the soldiers. Instead, they engaged in ethnic cleansing terrorism against unarmed Whites. They killed farmers' wives while their husbands were away. They massacred Christian priests who taught them how to read black nationalist literature. They shot up school busses.
Why did they do such evil things? Because they wanted the Whites to leave.

You cannot rule a country in perpetuity while being a minority within that country.
For Rhdoesia or South Africa to have "won" they would've had to flee to one part of the country to establish themselves as a majority and declare independence from the rest, year and years before they lost the war.
