It’s hot, stingy on gibs, and major cities are Africa in many ways. Rural areas often being fairly run down. We don’t have the hustle and bustle of Atlanta or the beaches of Florida. People are scared off by the conservative nature of the area.
That being said, we do get some migration. Troy attracts a good deal to Chinks, along with Auburn. UA brings in a good deal of Yankees for some reason. Mystery meat Hispanics, though perhaps not in the numbers elsewhere, man our agribusiness plants and construction industry. Indians somehow manning gas stations, hotels, and liquor stores (do they throw darts at maps to migrate?)
Aside from that, there is at least Huntsville, which along with Auburn are sleepy, hipstery, and very affordable. Either could likely be little Sillicon Valleys in a decade or two.

Literally every defense contractor has a plant here, multiple car manufacturers in the area, tech companies fleeing California are setting up shop here.
