People often cite the "we bounced lasers off the moon!" but ignore we were bouncing lasers off the moon BEFORE the moon landing ever happened! (seriously look it up). The moon is naturally reflective, some parts more than others.

And if you think we can shine a laser onto a 2 foot wide retroreflector 238,000 miles away accurately and have photons come back to us when a round trip for light to the moon takes 2.51 seconds and Earth is moving through the universe at 1.3 million miles per hour (SERIOUSLY! LOOK IT UP!) and Earth would have already moved 906 miles by the time the light makes it back to Earth, making impossible to measure from the same location, I don't know what to tell you. They admit that the laser beam is "two football fields wide" by the time it reaches back to them, and that is nowhere close to 906 miles.

The only change of position is from the earth rotation and the orbit of the moon. The distance is absolutely not 906 miles, and the beam divergence is much more than 2 football fields - more like 7-8km at the moon and many times that when reaching earth. They are able to detect single photons, which is about all that manages to come back to the telescope.
