it is ironically more efficient. You employ more people while not having them hit full time status meaning you do not have to pay into a lot of programs while at the same time not being as reliant on specific people.
The whole pandemic proved one thing in particular, that +40 hour work weeks means less productivity and more pay for the same output outside of very specific positions.

ohh. there is also the stipulation in the US specifically that if you work less than an 8 hour day, you are not required to pay for breaks. Once you hit 8 hours in the US, you are required to pay employees for a 15 minute break every 4 hours as well as a "lunch break". by cutting the work day down to 6 -7hours, you are actually gaining a half hour of work out of your employees.
