They do not fire a lot with HIMARS, but they've developed quite a clever way of doing that. Right before using it, they fire salvos with Grad, Uragan, as well as launching a couple of Tochka-U missiles. The Russian AA systems open up on these, and after they've discharged and are reloading, Ukrainians release the HIMARS salvo. This way the HIMARS rockets reach the targets unhindered.

Thing is, air forces are a 1st world thing.
Ukraine only had obsolete scrap that got bombed while they were still grounded, and Russia has been larping for years about their aircraft despite only having like six Su-57 since they can't afford more, so now this thing has come down to artillery spam.
At this point a squad of B2s could probably end the war in a few days by destroying both armies.

I can’t help but feel that there is some truth to that. There are many excuses taught in history lessons for russians behaviour in the one war they had any success in, WW2. They say they were getting their own back on the Germans.
