There are comments pointing out that the video is literally lying, for instance it took a detour to Palmdale so they could avoid digging a tunnel through a mountain
The entire video is propaganda anyway, they push at least five different agendas at once

I actually hate "economists" more than anyone else involved with politics or government
They have more influence and less accuracy than pollsters or weathermen and there is never any consequence for their projections being wildly off
There was a study done on CBO projections and if they're more than a year out they're worse than worthless, they're significantly wrong
I'd round up and execute every economist in America ever before journalists, that's how harmful they are

That being said, the vid is wrong on quite a few points. But a HS rail going so over budget and being delayed this long in the easiest place to implement one is ridiculous on all accounts.

High speed rail is clearly a greater good project. But every single county, city, and school principal is going to want a high speed stop within 500 feet of their door. But that defeats the entire point of a high speed rail when it has to stop every 3 miles.
In addition anyone can put a full stop to the project for no reason, anonymously. Until millions of dollars and months or even years of research are completed to the satisfaction of ultra liberal judges who projectile vomit at the thought of a single ant getting crushed under boot.

NIMBYs ruin everything, but part of it is that the gov or whoever doesn't pay nearly as much for the property as it is valued or for the inconvenience, at least without a fight.

Yea the Vox video talked about that and local politicians slowing it down and making it more expensive by trying to make the train pass by their town, dragging the project. I wanted to see how Californians felt about that claim

Yep, it was the train to nowhere. The entire plan was absurd. The train stopped well before LAX and seemingly avoided every population center.

Most rapid transport and public transport is blocked by rich people who know this. This is why, for example, Bellevue has no direct access from Seattle by light rail even though it's been pushed forever. Murder any politician that wants to put a methadone clinic in your town.
