"In a small village in the Baghpat district of northern India, a local court sentenced two sisters, aged 15 and 23, to be raped and displayed naked in public with their faces painted black. The sentence, revealed by Amnesty International, is intended to disgrace the family, one of whose sons had a sexual relationship with a married woman from a higher caste."
What, is 7 years a whole generation in your country or something?

>Now, members of the village council in the Baghpat region have told Reuters they passed no such order. Family members of the two sisters also told Reuters they are unsure if the ruling was made. And local police deny any such directive was given.
>But family members said in interviews with Reuters the information that the council made such an order may have just been gossip.
>“It is all hearsay, we don’t know if this actually happened,” said Dharam Pal Singh, 55, the women’s father and a retired soldier. “We heard it from other villagers.”
Nothing ever happened So hearsay and gossip

This is what "individualism" actually meant historically. It had nothing to do with the absence of group identity. It meant the outlawing of shit like this where you can be sentenced for your 2nd cousin twice removed's crimes. When people said >Individualism is part of European traditional culture prior to 2010 or so, they weren't referring to atomization, but to the absence of these kinds of laws, which is something we tend to take for granted now, but for most of history, most of the world had these kinds of laws.
