OK, so good teachable moment here. The USA presently has a serious issue where we can't get microchips. We're dependent on China. (Note: Taiwan, but this is issue magically becomes the 1st issue where America inadvertently starts openly admitting that Taiwan actually belongs to China)
Why are we dependent on Taiwan (Note: China)?
Because free marketers told us "the free market will solve this problem" and it didn't. Because it never does. Because that's fake retarded horseshit
So now we've had to pass a bill to subsidize chip production with 50 billion US taxpayer dollars
Note: Those 50 billion dollars are going to go straight into the pockets of billionaires
This is the capitalist solution to free market failures, rather than just nationalizing the industry and producing it in a centrally planned economy.
So the rightwingers made us have private industry. Then when it failed, they vote against the subsidies. Then they turn around and say "democrats are giving 50 billion dollars to the rich!"
See how that works?
So how the rightwingers engineered this situation from start to finish (Becuase america is a capitalist country) and precipitated a situation in which we either have to maintain a near-military presence in Taiwan, and potentially face WW3 with China. Or give 50 billion to rich people. And then when we naturally say "OK, well obviously we're gonna give the 50 billion to the rich" they turn around and say "OMG DEMOCRATS GIVE MONEY TO THE RICH!"
See how it's all them? From start to finish? See how complicated and in-depth their manipulations of you go?
Hopefully we continue to make bad decisions so that the country implodes before we ruin the planet any more than we already have
Austin Jenkins
There are several chip production facilities in Arizona and Texas already operating or currently ongoing construction

>China (Taiwan) Seething yellow hands typed this post.

You can't get chips or cars because on trumps way out the door he black listed china's largest semiconductor producer meaning all these companies who used to use SMIC now had to run to the remaining fabs and overload them
Bump. This thread needs more exposure here because it's so illustrative of the problems facing US society
Imagine if, instead of rightwing lolberts getting their way, instead of capitalists getting their way, the US just created a nationalized industry to manufacture microchips
Instead of paying that 50 billion to already-billionaire privateers, we'd be paying it right into our own society. It would provide tons of employment (like private industry does) but instead of huge parts of that 50 billion going to private profits, it would all go to the employees and consumers
Employees could have living wages, pensions, good conditions, healthcare, vacations. Consumers could save on the prices of the products they buy
There's just no reason to govern the way we do (capitalistically). It's fundamentally corrupt. It's just our government giving money and property to rich people, simply because they're rich

A tarriff on imports is a much better strategy then a handout
Grayson Murphy
Yeah bruh let's put a tariff on the imports that we desperately need and absolutely literally can't function without. Great thinking there! Great rightwing thinking!

>Why are we dependent on Taiwan (Note: China)? 5 nanometer technology and hales

only the energy ones

>absolutely literally can't function without. 6 years build up to manufacture here, they haven't started yet

This response is a total non sequitur
Michael Harris
WTO doesn't allow us to use tariffs to protect our domestic industry so instead we have to try to sneak in all manner of taxpayer funded subsidies instead just to somewhat even the playing field. Not sure why we're still convinced that tariffs are the worst thing possible (besides racism) but for whatever reason, racing to the bottom and making the taxpayers cover the costs is what passes as sound economic and trade strategy.
Why do products made in Taiwan say made in Taiwan and not made in china?
Hudson Gray
>US just created a nationalized industry Yes, put Shaquinta from the DMV in charge of designing microchips. That's going to work real well.
Alexander Sanders
>Can't make iPhone 20, send americans to die at war.
Josiah Parker
No no no no no. This isn't a tariff. OMFG jesus you people have such broken brains that fire off inconsistently and randomly. This has nothing to do with tariffs. Tariffs don't help this situation. This isn't a situation where American companies are outsourcing production. This is a situation where free market capitalism in America has failed to spur ANY significant private industry where anyone wants to manufacture chips
Understand?
So it's the polar opposite of what you said. And what rightwingers believe. It's the POLAR opposite of your stupid, ignorant, retarded lolbert hillbilly shit that you blindly spurt off about, without even really thinking of what you're saying, anytime you see any economic issue come up
Luke Edwards
You are missing the real problem: these things that society is built around can't be made without slave labor, either in manufacturing or the gathering of necessary resources. There is no solution to this problem without mass inhumane, unsustainable action.
You can play teams all you want, but no one has a solution to what's coming that isn't evil.

Are you a keyword matching script? Your response shows zero comprehension of what you're replying to. Try again, this time 1) apologize for not reading what you replied to and 2) actually respond to what you're replying to. To expand on my post, take a look at pic related. That's who Biden has put in charge of Cybersecurity for the entire country. Why would anyone want the government running these things?
Jeeze man, did you atleast line up a publisher for that book you just typed? >free market failure A free market would definetly work, if there ever was such a thing. >Taiwan is fucked Yes, once the chip manufacturing industry is established in the US, Taiwan will he handed back to China from Beijing Biden
Brody Moore
Imagine if an entrepreneur started mass manufacturing chips instead of a nationalized company, filthy commie

Certain industries need to be controlled and maintained, China is known to conduct supply chain attacks by embedding vulnerabilities in firmware. Buying computer parts from their manufacturers is a huge national security risk.
