Calling all Oregonians! We are in huge danger of basically losing all of our gun rights thanks to the non denominational church in north Portland that's been trying to ban salt weapons for years now.
IP17 will be on our ballot in 2022 and as you know we only vote by mail in Oregon so the likely hood of it passing is high.
This bill will ban "Assault guns" (literally how its written in the bill) and it includes a full list of guns that where banned in the 1990s under California's Assault weapons ban, it looks like they copy an pasted the list, bans include guns that haven't been made for decades like the TEC 9
It will also Ban "high capacity magazines" to 10 rounds or less, and restrict the ability of you to use your "high capacity magazines" to only the range and for hunting purposes.
It will all so require you to take a live firing training class run by the state police department, and require a full "background check with no loopholes" also know as a gun purchase permit (FOID)
This bill is poorly written and will over burden the already understaffed and under funded Oregon State Police. It's basically a de-facto gun ban.

the Augustana Lutheran Church in Portland have been pushing to get a ballot initiative to ban Assault weapons' and large cap mags for years now. they where able to get more then 160,000 signatures with the help of Everytown for Gun Safety and get it on the the 2022 ballot.

Training is separate from background checks. You should show that you're competent to use a gun without hurting yourself or others too. The background checks are to make it harder for criminals and the insane to get guns. Notice that it makes it harder, not impossible. I acknowledge that. But I also acknowledge that it's possible to get away with murder, but that isn't a reason to allow it.
This bill would remove the loopholes around the background checks.
