What you stated is a symptom of narcissism. Narcissism is a part of human nature, but is normally suppressed by the super ego and ego. There are just as many people who can suppress their narcissism as those who can't and the more incompetent ones are usually the most destructive and retarded.
Consider: The Modus Operandi of malignant narcissists is control and superiority over others. As such, they will do whatever it takes to get it, often attracted towards positions of authority. If they can't, they'll either double down, or destroy resources that will allow others to acquire them, to prevent their imminent drop in hierarchy. The nihilism you stated is merely a symptom because in spite of their positions of authority, culture and laws prevent them from doing what they want. That's why they want to decriminalize crime and destroy the constitution. That's why they want guns taken away, because they know they will get hunted down for trying to do the things they want to do to the populous.
