They appreciate honesty and owning up to your mistakes
They also appreciate the programs and classes they take in prison, to show you're not just wasting time but are trying to become a better person

Come to think of it, most judges and cops are the same way on the outside too
Be honest with them and they'll try to work with you as best they can

There is no "being straight up" or anything or "owning up to the mistakes"
It is a checklist, simple as that, they want to send you to rehab or a "program" upon parole so you're someone else's problem and so you're paying into the system again.
They purposefully push violent offenders out as quick as possible on parole so they don't have to deal with them in their facilities.
