Inflation is a horrible all the time, inflation is the only reason why we financially struggled.
A gold/silver standard, rare-metal coinage system would see prices fall all the time as the money becomes worth a little bit more every day.
Governments and banks don't like having to wait for actual physical wealth to be moved around and them having to ask for it legally... so they put us on paper to just print it out and give it to whoever they want and that fucks everyone with inflation.
