FFS, there should be federal government programs to nip the rise of mental illness in this country.
There needs to be UBI so that people with debilitating mental illness can live in peace instead of clogging up the streets and raising the homelessness and crime rate in cities.
If that Reddit thread is what our society thinks of people who are the most vulnerable and cannot take care of ourselves, then our society doesn't deserve to exist.
