Can someone tell me why rightoids have insane nostalgia syndrome? Unlike most of the zoomers here I remember the 90s it wasn't some golden era. Things are better now if you ignore politics. It's a bit worse in Canada because of housing costs.

Because before the advent of smartphones, Any Forums and the internet at large represented a (relatively) safe haven for right leaning, socially rejected, or otherwise not widely accepted groups to escape to. Once every normie and their mother gained access to the internet and social media dawned, it was all over - suddenly the sekrit klub was compromised and you can't go anywhere without being bombarded by how much more fun normies are having than you, plus general internet humor has been dumbed down and sanitised to accommodate for this demographic shift.
Hence the rampant nostalgia. For the Any Forums crowd, the late 90s and 2000s really were better.
