Sure, except in the case of a bad cop planting evidence, it comes down to the suspect's word vs the cop. In this case, it's some entity on the internet who doesn't have the presumption of legitimacy that an officer would have. Most CP distribution sites are owned and operated by the feds, supposedly trying to catch anyone who goes to those sites and tries to download shit. I doubt that's very effective, most pedos would be behind 99 proxies.
But yeah, I can't think of a better way to discredit somebody in the eyes of the public than to say they have CP on their computer. You don't even need to plant the evidence really, who's gonna double check it?

Wrong. People have been busted for CP thumbnails that their browser automatically cached and saved, even if they didn't click on it. It's very unlikely to happen to you, but it has been successfully used as evidence before. I remember the first time it happened, it was a pretty big story around Any Forums, for obvious reasons. If I remember right, they used it to say that he did have CP but he had already deleted all of it, but forgot to clean the thumbnails from the browser cache. Which is very unlikely IMO but it worked.
